The area of Jeonnam (as of the end of 2024) has been finalized at 12,363 km². This is an increase of 0.8 km² compared to 2023, equivalent to 112 times the size of a soccer field (105m×68m).

With the new registration of 0.4 km² due to the completion (Phase 6-3) of the Muan Namanak New Town Oryong District residential land development project, the value of apartment land based on the officially announced land price (470,000 KRW per m²) increased by 188 billion KRW. In addition, the cadastral resurvey project in Gageodo, Heuksan-myeon, Shinan, the southwesternmost area in Korea, resulted in an increase of 0.4 km² of previously unregistered coastal land, further enhancing land utilization.

By city and county, Haenam (1,045 km²) has the largest area, followed by Suncheon (911 km²), Goheung (807.2 km²), Hwasun (787 km²), and Boseong (664.6 km²). In terms of the number of land parcels, Haenam (445,000), Goheung (410,000), and Naju (393,000) ranked highest.

Regarding land use, forest land accounts for the largest proportion at 6,931 km² (56.1%), followed by farmland at 3,162 km² (25.6%), roads at 465 km² (3.8%), residential land at 321 km² (2.6%), and others such as water areas at 1,484 km² (11.9%).

Although farmland and forest land have decreased due to their conversion to other uses through various development projects, the areas for roads, residential land, and factory sites have been steadily increasing due to reclamation of public waters, SOC expansion, and site development.

On a national scale, Jeonnam's area accounts for 12.3% of the entire country. It has the highest number of land parcels nationwide and is the third largest in area after Gyeongbuk and Gangwon Special Self-Governing Province.

The finalized area will be included in the cadastral statistics yearbook after verification by the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport later this month. Various land-related statistics will be made available through the Jeonnam Province official website.
