Prevention Program Runs Until the 24th of This Month
Seocho-gu, Seoul (District Mayor Jeon Seong-su) is operating the ‘2025 Dream Start Digital Rest Project’ from the 3rd to the 24th of this month to address digital overdependence issues among vulnerable children and their caregivers during the winter vacation.
This project targets 40 upper-grade children (ages 10-12) and their caregivers among Dream Start case management subjects, aiming to help them break free from dependence on digital devices and develop healthy lifestyle habits through educational and healing experience activities.
The ‘2025 Dream Start Digital Rest Project’ was planned as a more advanced program based on the results of last year’s two sessions of the ‘Dream Start Internet and Smartphone Overdependence Prevention Group Counseling’ program.
This year, children and parents will participate in separate educational sessions, enhancing the educational effect through an interactive linked program combining theoretical education and practical training. The project is supported by the Kangwon Land Forest Healing Foundation and the Seocho-gu Youth Counseling Welfare Center.
The project consists of three programs: ‘Group Training’ for children, ‘Parent Education’ for caregivers, and a nature experience-type ‘Healing Camp.’
The ‘Digital Rest Group Training’ will be held four times from the 3rd to the 24th of this month, every Monday from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m., at Yangjae Dream Classroom (sessions 1 to 3) and Seocho-gu Youth Welfare Counseling Center (session 4). The sessions will combine theory and practice to teach children how to use digital devices healthily.
The ‘Digital Rest Parent Education’ will take place on Saturday the 15th from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. at Yangjae Comprehensive Social Welfare Center. The lecture will focus on parenting methods suitable for the AI era and communication with children. Professor Hong Seong-gwan, who has been actively researching digital addiction prevention and conducting various educational programs, will participate as a lecturer for both children and parents.
The ‘Digital Rest Healing Camp,’ held from the 19th to the 21st for two nights and three days at High Healingwon in Yeongwol-gun, Gangwon-do, will provide children with time to find balance in body and mind by experiencing various alternative activities without digital devices in nature. The camp includes programs such as ecological exploration and teamwork activities that encourage active participation from the children.
The Dream Start project provides customized welfare services for vulnerable children under the age of 12 and their families, selecting target households through home visits to support the healthy growth and development of children.
District Mayor Jeon Seong-su stated, “We expect that this project will bring about practical changes as children and parents work together to solve digital overdependence issues.”
