According to Goyang Special City on the 7th, a heavy snow warning was issued as about 5cm of snow fell within an hour around 4 p.m. on the 6th in Goyang City.
Amid concerns about traffic congestion during rush hour, the city operated the Disaster and Safety Countermeasures Headquarters at Emergency Level 1 to ensure thorough situation management and snow removal work to prevent traffic inconvenience.
In particular, based on the Korea Meteorological Administration's forecast, pre-treatment was carried out on all road sections within the jurisdiction before the sudden heavy snowfall, prioritizing snow removal on major arterial roads and sections vulnerable to icing.
Additionally, after the start of Emergency Level 1 duty, half of the staff were mobilized to conduct snow removal not only on roadways but also on sidewalks, overpasses, and alleys?areas often neglected?to minimize citizen inconvenience.
Goyang Special City plans to maintain an emergency response system to promptly respond to safety accidents and damages in preparation for additional snowfall forecasts and icing. Furthermore, if citizens suffer property damage, the city will actively consider on-site emergency restoration and the provision of disaster relief funds.
Lee Dong-hwan, Mayor of Goyang Special City, stated, “We will prioritize the safety and convenience of citizens and make every effort to respond thoroughly to winter disasters.”
