Wildfire Prevention Headquarters Operates 24 Hours from January 24 to May 15
Unmanned Surveillance Cameras Doubled from Last Year, Advanced System Established with Introduction of Portable Thermal Imaging Camera
Mapo-gu (Mayor Park Gang-su) has entered a full-scale wildfire prevention system starting January 24 in observance of the ‘Wildfire Caution Period.’
The forest area of Mapo-gu, including Seongmisan, Maebongsan, and Sangamsan, covers approximately 74 hectares (ha). Due to the local characteristics with residential areas nearby, prevention is crucial as wildfires could easily spread and cause secondary damage.
This year’s ‘Wildfire Caution Period’ runs from January 24 to May 15, and considering residents’ safety, it was implemented 8 days earlier than last year, including the Lunar New Year holiday.
Mapo-gu has established a Wildfire Prevention Countermeasures Headquarters led by Mayor Park Gang-su, operating 24 hours during the caution period. The headquarters monitors wildfire occurrences in real-time, maintains cooperation with related agencies such as the fire department, and takes initial response measures.
Additionally, Mapo-gu has organized a firefighting team composed of 267 public officials to quickly extinguish fires and safely evacuate residents in case of wildfire outbreaks.
Inspections have also been completed on 13 wildfire firefighting equipment storage boxes installed in the mountains. All equipment was test-operated to ensure no issues during actual use, and any damaged equipment was immediately repaired.
Furthermore, Mapo-gu plans to patrol hiking trails and forest areas at least once a week and use a specialized wildfire prevention firefighting team to frequently monitor various mountain locations.
This year, in addition to the two existing unmanned wildfire prevention surveillance cameras, four more will be installed throughout the mountains, and one portable thermal imaging camera will be newly introduced to expand the wildfire monitoring system using advanced technology.
A district official stated, “Although there have been no wildfires in Mapo-gu in the past 10 years, most of the forests such as Sangamsan and Maebongsan are adjacent to residential areas, requiring special caution. We will regularly conduct equipment inspections and patrols to ensure a wildfire-free Mapo-gu this year as well.”
Moreover, Mapo-gu plans to install banners with behavioral guidelines on major hiking trails and conduct regular promotional activities to encourage residents to voluntarily participate in wildfire prevention.
Mayor Park Gang-su of Mapo-gu said, “With the belief that ‘prevention is the best response,’ we will remain vigilant and do our utmost to prevent wildfires. As dry weather increases the risk of wildfires, we ask all residents to actively cooperate in wildfire prevention.”
Yeongdeungpo-gu Protects Residents’ Safety Even During the Day... ‘24-Hour’ Ansim-i Monitoring
Safe Route Guidance, Return Home Monitoring, Emergency Dispatch When Needed?Real-Time Assistance
Local Governments’ Top Priority Is Residents’ Safety... Strengthening Safety in Daily Life
Yeongdeungpo-gu (Mayor Choi Ho-gwon) announced that it has expanded the operating hours of the ‘Ansim-i Monitoring’ system from nighttime to 24 hours starting last month to alleviate residents’ anxiety and ensure a safe daily life.
‘Ansim-i Monitoring’ is a project that links closed-circuit television (CCTV) with the Ansim-i app to respond immediately to emergencies and help residents move safely. Previously, it operated during nighttime hours (9 PM to 6 AM), but to prevent various crimes and accidents, the operating hours have been changed to 24 hours.
With this expanded operation, residents can receive 24-hour services including ▲‘Safe Route Guidance’ that informs them of paths equipped with safety facilities such as CCTV and police substations ▲‘Return Home Monitoring,’ where pressing the start button on a safe route activates monitoring of the travel path by the control center ▲‘Emergency Dispatch,’ which supports voice alerts and police dispatch when shaking the smartphone or pressing the volume button repeatedly in an emergency.
In addition, the district operates ‘Safe Keeper Houses’ where residents can evacuate to nearby convenience stores during crises and ‘Unmanned Safe Delivery Boxes’ that allow receiving parcels without meeting strangers, further enhancing safety in daily life.
Mayor Choi Ho-gwon of Yeongdeungpo-gu said, “By expanding Ansim-i Monitoring to a 24-hour continuous operation system, we will take a step closer to becoming a safe city, Yeongdeungpo. Since safety is the top priority of local governments, we will carefully ensure that residents can enjoy a safe daily life.”
