Gangbuk-gu Supports Electric Vehicle Firefighting Equipment to Gangbuk Fire Station

Delivery of Electric Vehicle Fire Water Tank and Fire Suppression Equipment

Gangbuk-gu, Seoul (Mayor Lee Soon-hee) announced on the 7th that it has provided two types of electric vehicle fire suppression equipment to Gangbuk Fire Station (Chief Lee Sang-il) to protect residents' safety from electric vehicle fires.

Electric vehicle fires are difficult to extinguish due to the heat generated from the battery, and missing the golden time can lead to large-scale damage, making effective initial response crucial. Accordingly, Gangbuk-gu established a support plan last October to strengthen electric vehicle fire response capabilities, secured the latest equipment, and promoted its free transfer to Gangbuk Fire Station last month.

At the electric vehicle fire suppression equipment handover ceremony held at Gangbuk-gu Office on the 5th, Mayor Lee Soon-hee and Chief Lee Sang-il of Gangbuk Fire Station attended, exchanged opinions on resident safety, and pledged close cooperation.

The equipment supported by Gangbuk-gu includes two types: an electric vehicle fire water tank and electric vehicle battery fire suppression equipment. The "electric vehicle fire water tank" is an effective response device tailored to the characteristics of electric vehicles, which installs a temporary water tank around the vehicle in case of fire and submerges the burning vehicle underwater to cool the high-temperature internal battery. The "electric vehicle battery fire suppression equipment" directly penetrates the lower part of the battery cell to extinguish the fire, enabling faster and more efficient fire suppression compared to existing equipment.

Mayor Lee Soon-hee said, "Gangbuk-gu and Gangbuk Fire Station must closely cooperate in the prevention, response, and recovery of all fires, not just electric vehicle fires," and added, "We expect this equipment support to contribute to a swift and effective response to electric vehicle fires."

Gangbuk-gu and Gangbuk Fire Station plan to continue strengthening rapid response and cooperation systems in the event of various fires to protect the lives and property of residents.
