Development began last year... Initial model created
Additional R&D underway this year to expand industry coverage and enhance features
The Korea Technology Finance Corporation (Kibo) plans to introduce generative artificial intelligence (AI) specialized in technology evaluation tasks for companies. Development has been underway since last year, and an initial model has now been created, entering the preparation stage for field application. The introduction of Kibo’s specialized generative AI is expected to enhance the efficiency and accuracy of technology evaluation tasks.
According to Kibo on the 7th, a demonstration of the ‘Kibo Specialized Generative AI’ was held recently at the headquarters in Busan during a management strategy workshop. During the demonstration, when asked how to classify the technology and industry of the companies under evaluation, the AI recommended technology and industry classifications based on learning data such as Kibo’s own evaluation information. When asked about trends in related technologies or industries, it also provided current status information through technology industry databases. Kibo has been developing this generative AI since last year. The development of an initial model capable of demonstration has been completed and was presented to employees who actually write technology evaluation reports, such as branch managers nationwide.
This generative AI works by inputting necessary questions at various stages when Kibo staff conduct technology evaluations to decide whether to support a company, deriving answers based on data. For example, if the characteristics of the company to be evaluated are input, it can create a checklist highlighting key points to focus on during on-site investigations. It also provides opinions by combining evaluation information and market data on the essence of technology evaluation, such as technological feasibility, marketability, and business viability. It is explained that it can also draft preliminary versions of technology evaluation reports.
However, Kibo has not yet decided when to apply this AI to field operations. Currently, this generative AI has been developed only for certain technology and industry sectors. Additional research and development are underway to expand to other industry sectors and to supplement its functions. Since the generative AI is considered an auxiliary tool to improve work efficiency and the reliability of technology evaluations, Kibo plans to review ways to directly apply it to technology evaluation and other field operations depending on future development stages. A Kibo official explained, "The Kibo Specialized Generative AI can be comprehensively utilized in technology evaluation tasks," adding, "It will create a support system that helps field staff beyond just writing evaluation reports."
Kibo has been proactive in applying AI technology to its operations. In the second half of last year, it opened to the private sector a system equipped with an AI-based technology evaluation model that easily grades and scores companies’ technological capabilities. It also provided a service where customers input company information such as founding date, industry, and CEO experience, and the AI offers the most suitable guarantee products within one minute. An industry insider said, "If the scope of AI application expands to tasks such as company due diligence and technology evaluation report writing, support for technology-based companies can be carried out more efficiently."
