Cheonan and Asan Four-Year University Tuition to Increase by Up to 4.98%

Some four-year universities in Cheonan and Asan, Chungnam Province, have decided to raise tuition fees for the first time in about 15 years.

According to each university and the University Information Portal on the 6th, Dankook University has decided to increase tuition by 4.95% after freezing it for 14 years, while Baekseok University will raise tuition by 4.98%.

Sunmoon University and Hoseo University, which had frozen tuition for 17 years, have also decided to increase it by 4.9% each.

The national university Kongju National University has kept tuition frozen for 17 years, and both Korea University of Technology and Education and Nazarene University, which recently raised tuition, have decided to keep it frozen.

There are also universities where tuition has not yet been finalized. Namseoul University plans to complete tuition adjustments next week, and Soonchunhyang University is still under review.

Sangmyung University has not made a decision yet, but since the Seoul campus decided on a 4.95% increase, it is likely that the Cheonan campus will follow suit.

A university official from an institution that decided to raise tuition said, "Fixed costs continue to rise, while the number of students keeps decreasing and tuition has been frozen for over 15 years," adding, "For regional private universities, raising tuition seems to be an unavoidable measure."

Meanwhile, the government has capped the maximum tuition increase for the 2025 academic year at 5.49%, and universities that raise tuition may be excluded from eligibility for Type II National Scholarships.
