Dangjin City, Chungnam Province, announced on the 6th that its Traffic Culture Index improvement rate in 2024 rose by 6.8% compared to the previous year, ranking 8th nationwide.
According to the recent 2024 Traffic Culture Index released by the Korea Transportation Safety Authority, Dangjin City ranked 8th among the 49 cities with a population of less than 300,000 out of 229 local governments nationwide, climbing from 31st place last year to 8th, an increase of 23 places.
The Traffic Culture Index is an indicator that evaluates 229 cities, counties, and districts nationwide by group to promote autonomous competition among local governments and to establish rational alternatives for traffic safety policies.
The Traffic Culture Index is based on a total score of 100 points, consisting of driving behavior (55 points), pedestrian behavior (20 points), and traffic safety (25 points).
Dangjin City received 46.72 points (up 3.04 points) for driving behavior, 16.79 points (up 1.51 points) for pedestrian behavior, and 21.4 points (up 0.9 points) for traffic safety, for a total of 84.93 points.
The city analyzed that these results were due to improvements in the compliance rate with drunk driving bans, compliance with pedestrian signal rules, and the administrative efforts of the local government in traffic safety.
In particular, all indicators in the evaluation of the local government's administrative efforts for traffic safety achieved an A grade.
However, the rate of using turn signals and compliance with speed limits declined significantly compared to the previous year, indicating the need for continued public awareness campaigns and enforcement activities.
A city official stated, "Dangjin City was able to achieve good results not only in the Traffic Safety Index but also in the Traffic Culture Index thanks to the active interest and efforts of our citizens," adding, "We will continue to strengthen traffic safety policies and achieve an even higher Traffic Culture Index in the future."
