KOSPI Rises Over 1% on Dual Buying by Foreigners and Institutions Yonhap News

The KOSPI index closed higher, supported by buying from foreigners and institutions.


On the 6th, the KOSPI index closed at 2,536.75, up 27.48 points (1.1%) from the previous day. The trading volume was 470.03 million shares, and the trading value was tentatively estimated at 11.6452 trillion won.


By investor type, institutions and foreigners net bought 159.3 billion won and 355.8 billion won respectively, while individuals net sold 604.3 billion won. Program trading saw net buying of 46.5 billion won in arbitrage trading and 317.2 billion won in non-arbitrage trading.


Most sectors rose. The medical precision instruments sector rose 3.71%, food, beverage, and tobacco 3.56%, construction 3.3%, general services 3.07%, IT services 2.01%, electrical and electronics 1.65%, textiles and apparel 1.45%, manufacturing 1.3%, real estate 1.2%, chemicals 1.12%, insurance 1.09%, and pharmaceuticals 1.06%. Meanwhile, securities fell 0.53% and transportation and warehousing declined 0.3%.


Top market capitalization stocks showed mixed movements. Samsung Electronics rose 2.08%, SK Hynix 2.36%, Samsung Biologics 0.37%, Kia 0.71%, Celltrion 1.51%, NAVER 1.31%, and Samsung C&T 0.93%. On the other hand, LG Energy Solution dropped 0.87%, Hyundai Motor -0.49%, KB Financial Group -6.7%, HD Hyundai Heavy Industries -2.1%, and Shinhan Financial Group -1.38% closed lower.


There were 599 advancing stocks, 282 declining stocks, and 62 stocks unchanged. One stock hit the upper price limit.


The KOSDAQ index also closed strong. The KOSDAQ index ended at 740.32, up 9.34 points (1.28%) from the previous day. By investor type, institutions and foreigners net bought 70.2 billion won and 8.7 billion won respectively, while individuals net sold 64.3 billion won.


Top market capitalization stocks showed mixed results. Alteogen rose 4.26%, Rainbow Robotics 0.94%, Samchundang Pharmaceuticals 4.46%, Ligand Chem Bio 5.65%, Classys 0.19%, Lino Industrial 6.4%, Hugel 4.12%, and Pharma Research 6.92%. Meanwhile, EcoPro BM fell 0.73%, HLB -3.68%, EcoPro -1.0%, JYP Ent. -2.4%, and HPSP -0.81% declined.


Meanwhile, in the Seoul foreign exchange market, the won/dollar exchange rate is trading at 1,448.3 won, up 4.4 won from the previous day.
