'Trump is Not Interested in Saving Yoon,' Says U.S. Report
"Those Waving the Stars and Stripes at Anti-Impeachment Rallies Should See the State of the World"
"The United States Has Consistently Supported the Restoration of Democracy Amid the Insurrection"
"The Image of the Stars and Stripes Waving Is Broadcast Worldwide... It Is Embarrassing"
On the 15th, when the second arrest warrant execution for President Yoon Suk-yeol was underway, supporters of President Yoon gathered in front of the Gwacheon Office of the Corruption Investigation Office for High-ranking Officials (CIO) holding Taegeukgi and the U.S. flag.
Regarding supporters of President Yoon Suk-yeol appearing at anti-impeachment rallies holding the American flag, the Stars and Stripes, Kim Yoon, a member of the Democratic Party of Korea, said, “Please take down the Stars and Stripes at the anti-impeachment rallies.”
On the 6th, Representative Kim shared a report from the American foreign affairs magazine Foreign Policy (FP) dated the 3rd (local time) on his Facebook, stating, “At this point, I hope those holding the Stars and Stripes at the anti-impeachment rallies would properly understand the state of the world.”
The article he shared was titled “South Korean Conservatives Desperately Need Trump’s Support” by Foreign Policy. The outlet reported, “Members of the People Power Party, to which President Yoon belongs, are desperately rushing to seek help from Trump,” and “Conservative politicians are distorting President Yoon’s (martial law) authoritarian gamble as a move to counter Chinese interference and strengthen the alliance with the United States.”
The outlet also stated, “However, despite the desperate cries of the People Power Party, Trump seems uninterested in rescuing former President Yoon,” and analyzed that Trump might prefer diplomacy with Lee Jae-myung, leader of the Democratic Party of Korea.
On the 3rd of last month, as officials from the Corruption Investigation Office entered the presidential residence in Hannam-dong, Seoul, to execute an arrest warrant for President Yoon Seok-yeol, supporters of President Yoon gathered on the road near the residence in Hannam-dong to hold an anti-impeachment rally.
In response, Representative Kim said, “The renowned American foreign affairs magazine Foreign Policy analyzed that ‘Trump is not interested in rescuing Yoon Suk-yeol,’” adding, “It also included the obvious statement that ‘the American president does not have the power to overturn Korean democracy.’”
He continued, “The United States has consistently supported the restoration of democracy through legal procedures regarding the Yoon Suk-yeol insurrection,” and “The United States has clearly expressed opposition to military coups and support for impeachment trials at critical times for its ally Korea. Is it only the participants of the anti-impeachment rallies who do not know this, even though everyone else does?”
He then criticized, “Where does the servile and humiliating superstition that the United States will save President Yoon come from?” and “Seeing the image of the Stars and Stripes waving at the anti-impeachment protests broadcast worldwide through CNN, I can only feel ashamed thinking about what people in other countries must think.”
Finally, he said, “Although the anti-impeachment protests are guaranteed as freedom of expression and assembly, I sincerely hope the Stars and Stripes are not held. Is it too much to ask to protect the pride of the sovereign citizens of the Republic of Korea?” and “In 2025, when K-Hallyu will be sweeping the world, using the Stars and Stripes as a flag of anti-communism and anti-impeachment is an anachronistic delusion. What crime has the Stars and Stripes committed to suffer this? Stop waving the Stars and Stripes at the anti-impeachment rallies,” he reiterated.
