Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff Kim Myung-soo met with the Commander-in-Chief of the Royal Thai Armed Forces to enhance military cooperation between the two countries.
According to the Joint Chiefs of Staff on the 6th, Chairman Kim met with Commander-in-Chief Songwit Noonpakdee of Thailand and discussed the recent security situation on the Korean Peninsula and ways to strengthen Korea-Thailand military cooperation. This is the first meeting between the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff and the Thai Commander-in-Chief in about nine years.
After holding a welcoming ceremony at the Ministry of National Defense parade ground, Chairman Kim and Commander-in-Chief Songwit Noonpakdee shared a common understanding of the importance of joint recognition and response between Korea and Thailand for regional security.
Chairman Kim emphasized, "Thailand is a ‘key ally’ that fought together for the freedom and peace of the Korean Peninsula during the Korean War, and as a ‘strategic partner,’ we will closely cooperate for freedom, peace, and prosperity in the international community."
Meanwhile, the Joint Chiefs of Staff stated that the Navy and Marine Corps have participated annually in the 'Cobra Gold' exercises held in Thailand to improve joint operational capabilities and interoperability. This year’s exercise expanded participation areas, including the ‘first participation in space training’ and the ‘first formation of a Navy-Marine Corps one team.’
