Gyeonggi-do Declares 'Emergency Level 1' at 1 PM on the 6th Due to Heavy Snowfall

Gyeonggi Province entered Emergency Level 1 of the Disaster and Safety Countermeasures Headquarters at 1 p.m. on the 6th, following the issuance of a preliminary heavy snow warning across the province at 10:10 a.m.

The Korea Meteorological Administration had earlier forecasted snowfall of more than 10 cm in the southern part of Gyeonggi between 12 p.m. and 6 p.m. Emergency Level 1 involves a total of 15 personnel, including the Natural Disaster Countermeasures Team Leader as the Situation Management Chief, working in areas such as roads, transportation, and agriculture.

Gyeonggi Provincial Government

Kim Seong-jung, the First Deputy Governor of Gyeonggi Province, requested in an official document that ▲ snow removal and equipment be pre-positioned to enable immediate deployment during snowfall ▲ thorough pre-snow removal work be conducted to prepare for road congestion, traffic accidents, and pedestrian safety accidents during commuting hours ▲ road patrols be strengthened and follow-up snow removal on side roads be thoroughly conducted in freezing-prone areas where black ice is expected ▲ snow removal work be carried out during daytime hours to ensure safety, and that the public be actively informed of the heavy snow action guidelines.

Gyeonggi Province stated that snowfall will continue until the 7th, and with temperatures dropping below freezing, icy roads are expected. To prevent safety accidents during commuting hours, drivers should reduce speed and maintain sufficient safety distance, and pedestrians should be cautious of slipping accidents on snowy roads.
