Samsung Electronics Unveils 6G White Paper... "We Will Embed AI" Yonhap News

Samsung Electronics announced on the 6th through its newsroom that it has released a 6G white paper titled ‘AI Embedding and Sustainable Communication Services,’ which outlines the trends and directions of next-generation mobile communication technology. This second white paper follows the first one, ‘A New Dimension of Hyper-Connected Experience,’ published in July 2020.

Samsung Electronics anticipates that in the 6G era, new services such as immersive extended reality, digital twins, massive communications, ubiquitous connectivity, and fixed wireless access will emerge. The white paper presents four key themes to meet the evolving market demands: ▲ AI embedding ▲ energy efficiency improvement ▲ coverage expansion ▲ next-generation security.

Charlie Jang, Executive Vice President of Samsung Research’s Next Generation Communications Research Center, stated, “Samsung Electronics is accelerating 6G research with a focus on communication technologies that actively utilize AI and the importance of sustainable networks. As 6G standardization officially begins this year, we plan to develop technologies that satisfy market demands.”

Telecommunication industries and standardization organizations have been working on 6G since 2020. After candidate technology development, evaluation, and coordination processes, the 6G technical specifications are expected to be finalized by 2030. Recently, with the standardization schedules of the 'ITU (International Telecommunication Union) -R' and the global integrated technical specification organization for mobile communications, '3GPP,' becoming more concrete, 6G research and development is expected to accelerate.

Samsung Electronics plans to continue leading global standardization activities and prepare for the 6G era by considering lessons learned from 5G commercialization and new market demands.
