A Young Man in His 20s Featured on YouTube Channel 'Yeolhyeonnama'
Dreamed of Becoming a Math Teacher, Then Became Interested in Interior Film
"Experts Looked Cool"... Earns 4 Million Won Per Month
The story of a young man born in 2003, who gave up on entering university despite having excellent academic records during his school years and learned a skill to achieve a monthly income of 4 million won, has become a hot topic. On the 3rd, a story about Do Seung-hyun (22), who works in the interior film technical field, was uploaded on the YouTube channel ‘Yeolhyeonnam-a’. Do, who has been working in the technical field for three and a half years, said in the video, “I happened to see a ‘interior film’ installation video on YouTube and fell in love with the charm of the technical job, which led me to start working.”
Do, who often ranked first in his science classes, said he initially planned to enter a teacher’s college to become a math teacher. Then, by chance, he learned about technical jobs through YouTube videos and started learning interior film technology immediately after graduating from high school. Do recalled, “Honestly, I didn’t even know what interior film was. All my friends around me felt sorry for me. They asked why I was studying if that was the case.”
However, his mother recommended this job, and after researching more about the profession himself, he thought it would suit him well. Do said, “Even if you go to university, you don’t necessarily get a job in your major. So, I didn’t think going to university was that meaningful. I wanted to increase my value in a way other than going to university. Being an expert in any field looked cool, and I wanted to have my own skill.”
It is reported that Do did not receive formal professional training at a technical academy. He learned on-site by visiting installation companies himself. The daily wage he started with was 80,000 won, which has now risen to 200,000 won. He expressed satisfaction, saying, “I think it’s a high income for my age.”
He said, “I earn over 4 million won on average per month. When the income is good, there are months I make 5 million won,” and added, “I also save 2 to 3 million won every month. So far, I have saved about 35 million won.” However, he noted, “I heard that if you focus on money as a goal, you don’t earn much. The money is just following me now.”
He continued, “This is a job that people my age can all do. Some might even do better. The most important thing is one’s will. The mindset to do well and the willingness to learn,” and explained, “It’s actually not easy to be taught everything on-site. I was able to try when the opportunity came after previewing on YouTube.”
He added, “Going to university is mainstream, but I hope friends who only studied can see that there is this kind of path too,” and said, “Technical jobs are diverse. If you look into them according to your preferences, you can realize that the world is wider and more diverse than you think.”
