Japan Airlines and Delta Air Lines Passenger Planes Collide on Runway

A collision occurred between Japan Airlines and Delta Air Lines passenger planes on a runway at Seattle-Tacoma International Airport in Washington State, USA. However, no injuries were reported in this incident.


According to the U.S. Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) on the 5th (local time), at around 10:17 a.m., the main wing of a Japan Airlines Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner taxiing on the runway at Seattle-Tacoma International Airport struck the tail wing of a Delta Air Lines Boeing 737-800 that was waiting for takeoff.

The Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner, which had departed from Tokyo that day, was taxiing on the runway after landing at Seattle-Tacoma International Airport, while the Boeing 737-800 was waiting to have ice removed from the aircraft before departing for Puerto Rico.


Authorities stated that no injuries occurred due to the collision. There were 142 passengers on board the Delta Air Lines aircraft, while the number of passengers on the Japan Airlines aircraft was not disclosed.


Delta Air Lines said, "We were waiting for the removal of ice that had formed on the exterior of the aircraft when the wingtip of another aircraft made contact with the tail," adding, "There were no injuries to crew or passengers."


Delta Air Lines passenger Jason Chan said, "The plane shook back and forth when the collision happened," and "Shortly after, the captain announced that the tail of the plane had been hit."


The FAA reported that some flights were delayed due to the incident.


Meanwhile, in the United States, on the 29th of last month, a passenger plane and a helicopter collided midair over Washington, D.C., resulting in a crash that killed all 67 people on board. Two days later, a small aircraft crashed in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, killing all on board and a total of seven people.
