The section has a narrow road width and severe curves, causing inconvenience in traffic. With the selection of the Dongjeom~Tongdong 5.5 km bypass road (National Highway Replacement Road Line 31) project (43.8 billion KRW) as a PFS target project, Taebaek City expects that once the road is constructed after passing the PFS, it will have a positive impact on improving local transportation infrastructure and revitalizing the economy.

A total of 28 projects in Gangwon Province were selected for this PFS target project, and the decision on whether to proceed with the projects will be finalized by the end of the year after the Ministry of Economy and Finance conducts the PFS investigation.

A Taebaek City official stated, “We will make every effort to pass the PFS so that this project can serve as a foundation for the Underground Research Laboratory (URL) for research purposes and as a supporting infrastructure for the Cheoram Goteosil Industrial Complex and Dongjeom Industrial Complex,” adding, “We will continue to strive for regional transportation network support projects that citizens can feel.”

Meanwhile, the city is making its best efforts for a major transformation in transportation through the passage of the Yeongwol~Samcheok Expressway PFS on January 23 and the inclusion of the Taebaek~Yeongdong Line high-speed improvement project in the 5th National Railway Network Construction Plan.
