Discussion on Spreading Snow Removal Agents
in Vulnerable and Habitually Icy Areas
Jeonbuk Special Self-Governing Province held a countermeasure meeting on the 5th, presided over by Vice Governor for Administrative Affairs Choi Byungkwan, with relevant provincial departments and 14 cities and counties to prepare for heavy snow, cold waves, and strong winds.
According to the Korea Meteorological Administration, snow is expected to continue across Jeonbuk through the 8th. The expected snowfall is 5-15 cm, with some areas in the west coast and southern inland regions of Jeonbuk forecasted to receive more than 20 cm of snow.

In addition, strong winds and a significant drop in temperature are anticipated, along with a small amount of precipitation (5-20 mm).
At the meeting, 13 collaborative functional departments and 14 cities and counties participated to review countermeasures for heavy snow and cold waves and discuss response plans.
The main countermeasures discussed included: ▲ intensive distribution of snow removal agents in vulnerable areas (bridges, tunnels, mountain passes, slopes, etc.) and sections prone to habitual freezing ▲ strengthened monitoring and safety measures for five major vulnerable areas related to wet snow (collapse, toppling, slipping, congestion, isolation) ▲ management plans for groups vulnerable to cold waves ▲ extended operating hours for cold wave shelters and emergency evacuation centers ▲ inspection of temporary housing facilities and stockpiling of relief supplies.
In particular, with a cold wave advisory currently in effect in the province, the plan is to strengthen checks on the health and heating conditions of groups vulnerable to cold waves, as the perceived temperature is expected to drop significantly due to falling temperatures and strong winds.
The province also plans to reinforce public awareness of safety guidelines for cold waves, such as recommending the use of protective gear to prevent frostbite when going outdoors.
Vice Governor Choi Byungkwan stated, "I urge that the measures discussed in the meeting for heavy snow, cold waves, and strong winds be implemented on the ground to minimize damage," and added, "As continuous snowfall is forecasted, please remain vigilant and make every effort to protect lives and prevent property damage."
Vice Governor Choi also added, "I ask residents to strictly follow safety rules such as snow removal and equipment checks, and to immediately report to the province or city/county offices if any damage is anticipated."
