Expanding a Pro-Korean Design Network Based on Understanding Korean Culture
The College of Design at Dongseo University (President Jang Je-guk) has been finally selected as the ‘2025 Korea-Japan Joint Higher Education Exchange Program Short-term Course Operating University’ organized by the National Institute for International Education.

This exchange program is the result of active exchange cooperation between Dongseo University’s Office of International Affairs and Japan, as well as the College of Design’s efforts to specialize. It is an excellent short-term educational program that contributes to enhancing student exchanges between Korea and Japan based on understanding of the Korean language and Korean culture.
For university students across Japan, educational expenses including tuition, round-trip airfare, and living expenses are supported up to 5 million KRW per person, with 20 participants allowed.
The College of Design plans to operate this program based on its track record of global programs through exchanges with various universities in Japan.
The detailed educational programs include Design Workshop 1: The Beauty of Korea Series, Design Workshop 2: Hangul Typography, Design Workshop 3: Creation of Dongnae Hakchum Content, Design Workshop 4: Experience of Traditional Korean Minhwa (folk painting), Major-linked Understanding of Korean and Japanese Food Culture: The Taste and Charm of Busan, Traditional Korean Field Experience: Visit to Busan Folk Arts Center and Dongnae Hakchum Preservation Society, and other creative design education contents based on Korean culture.
The College of Design’s program will be held for two weeks from July 14 to July 27 at Dongseo University’s Jurye Campus and Centum Campus.
Dean Jang Ju-young of the College of Design expressed her aspiration, saying, “Through this exchange program, we will provide Japanese students with the opportunity to study at a Korean university, foster talents who understand and are friendly toward Korea, and use this as an opportunity to expand educational content among Asian universities.”
In this project, nine universities nationwide were selected (in alphabetical order: Keimyung University, Daegu University, Duksung Women’s University, Dongseo University, Pusan National University, Busan University of Foreign Studies, Sungshin Women’s University, Chonnam National University, and Chung-Ang University).
