Daegu City Councilor Park Jong-pil Proposes Ordinance to Provide More Detailed Support for Struggling Textile Industry to Enhance Competitiveness

Daegu City Council member Park Jong-pil (People Power Party, proportional representation) plans to propose the "Daegu City Textile and Fashion Industry Promotion and Support Ordinance" at the 314th extraordinary session of the Daegu City Council starting on the 11th. This ordinance aims to revitalize the local economy, which is currently stagnant, by enhancing the competitiveness of the regional textile and fashion industry through systematic promotion and support.

Park said, "Daegu led South Korea's textile industry in the 1970s and 1980s, but now faces difficulties due to declining cost competitiveness and reduced exports caused by the global economic downturn, as well as changes such as eco-friendliness and digital transformation," adding, "It is necessary to foster textiles, which were a key industry, into an advanced industry through systematic support," explaining the background of the ordinance proposal.

The main contents of the ordinance include establishing a basic plan and conducting surveys for the continuous and systematic development of the textile and fashion industry, implementing projects for the promotion and support of the textile and fashion industry, providing certification support to strengthen regional textile competitiveness, and matters related to the delegation of duties.

Park emphasized, "Textiles are used as advanced materials in convergence with various industries and materials and are a steadily developing growth industry," adding, "Daegu has excellent research institutions such as the Korea Textile Development Institute and Daitec Research Institute, as well as marketing infrastructure like Daegu Textile Complex and PEXCO. If Daegu City provides more detailed support, the competitiveness of the regional textile industry can be further strengthened."
