According to statistics from the China National Film Administration, as of 3:30 PM on February 3, 2025 (local time), the box office during this year's Lunar New Year season reached 8.02 billion yuan (approximately 1.6003 trillion KRW), setting a new record high. This was driven by six new films released during the holiday period.
The top box office film of the Lunar New Year season was the animated movie "Natajima Dongyohae." The film earned 3.805 billion yuan (approximately 759.24979 billion KRW), demonstrating the enormous potential of the Chinese animation market.
Following closely was the mystery crime film "Chinatown Detective 1900," which grossed 1.988 billion yuan (approximately 396.66 billion KRW), securing second place.
The classic fantasy film "Fengshen Part 2: The Telephone Secretary" recorded box office earnings of 933 million yuan (approximately 186.1335 billion KRW), maintaining steady popularity. Additionally, the martial arts film "The Legend of the Condor Heroes: The Hero with a Black Whip" earned 569 million yuan (113.53826 billion KRW), proving the continued box office potential of the martial arts genre.
The family-targeted animation "Boonie Bears: Future Reborn" garnered 460 million yuan (approximately 91.77 billion KRW), achieving great popularity. The action blockbuster "Jiaolong Action" also attracted attention with box office earnings of 243 million yuan (48.4785 billion KRW).
Since the beginning of 2025, the total box office revenue of the Chinese film market has reached 9.82 billion yuan (1.95909 trillion KRW), surpassing the North American box office to become the world's number one. This reflects the rapid recovery of the Chinese film market and highlights the rising status of Chinese cinema within the global film industry.
