Inspection of Proper Operation at 1,078 Locations in the First Half of the Year
Gangbuk-gu, Seoul (Mayor Lee Soon-hee) will conduct a full inspection of security closed-circuit televisions (CCTV) and emergency bells by June this year to ensure the safety of its residents. CCTV plays a crucial role directly related to residents' safety, such as monitoring illegal dumping, preventing crimes, and securing evidence, making thorough management essential.
The district conducts full inspections twice a year, in the first and second halves, to check whether CCTV and emergency bells are functioning properly. This year's first half inspection targets a total of 1,078 locations where CCTV and emergency bells are installed within the area.
Gangbuk-gu has a total of 2,873 CCTVs installed: 2,192 in residential areas, 348 for child safety, 179 for park security, 105 for parking control, 22 for facility management, and 27 for disaster response. There are also 987 emergency bells in operation: 772 in residential areas, 109 for child safety, 99 for park security, and 6 for parking control. The emergency bells are designed so that when the button is pressed in an emergency, information is immediately transmitted to the Gangbuk-gu Integrated Control Center, allowing on-duty control personnel to respond quickly.
This inspection will be conducted on-site by one official from the Disaster Safety Division and three maintenance personnel. They will carefully check the management status of CCTVs, housings, poles, as well as the operation of emergency bells, speakers, microphones, the attachment status of guide signs, and other site-specific issues. In the second half of last year’s inspection, abnormalities were found at 11 emergency bell locations and 21 guide sign locations, which were promptly repaired.
Meanwhile, last year, the district detected incidents and accidents through monitoring and reported a total of 1,193 cases to the police and other authorities. It also provided a total of 2,803 data requests from the police, fire stations, and others to respond to crimes, disasters, fires, and traffic accidents. For inquiries related to the CCTV full inspection in the first half of this year, please contact the Integrated Control Team of the Disaster Safety Division at Gangbuk-gu Office.
Mayor Lee Soon-hee said, “CCTV and emergency bells are important infrastructure for residents’ safety,” adding, “Through this inspection, we will create an environment where residents can live with greater peace of mind.”
