People Power Party Asan City Council Members Urge Hong Seongpyo to Resign as Council Chairperson

Asan City councilors affiliated with the People Power Party are holding a press conference on the 4th.

On the morning of the 4th, members of the Asan City Council in South Chungcheong Province, affiliated with the People Power Party, held a press conference at the city hall briefing room, calling for Council Chairperson Hong Seongpyo to resign from his council position.

They stated, "Chairperson Hong caused public outrage by engaging in council activities while intoxicated, and the city council has become the subject of nationwide ridicule," adding, "Far from showing remorse or reflection, he continues to display a double standard."

They continued, "Chairperson Hong's action of withdrawing his resignation after self-approval is tantamount to declaring war on the citizens," and added, "Democratic Party council members who have shielded Chairperson Hong's misconduct must also come to their senses."

The letter of resignation was approved by Vice Chairman Maeng Uiseok, but the withdrawal request was approved by Chairman Hong himself.

The council members also demanded the resignation of Kim Heeyoung, the Democratic Party's floor leader, and Kim Miseong, the chair of the operations committee.

They claimed, "On the 23rd, Floor Leader Kim portrayed People Power Party council members as if they were opposed to Chairperson Hong's resignation during her remarks on council proceedings," and "Chair Kim unilaterally passed the request to convene a special session despite procedural flaws."

Meanwhile, the city council was scheduled to hold a special session on the 5th to process Chairperson Hong's resignation.

However, as Chairperson Hong withdrew his resignation on the 3rd, the council plans to hold an operations committee meeting on the 4th to reschedule the special session.
