Threats After Police Report
Court: "Nature of Crime is Serious, But... Considering Age and Health"
A man in his 70s who caused a disturbance by saying "Let's date" to a kindergarten teacher guiding children to school was sentenced to prison.
On the 4th, the 13th Criminal Division of the Incheon District Court (Presiding Judge Jang Woo-young) announced that A (75), who was indicted on charges including retaliatory threats under the Act on the Aggravated Punishment of Specific Crimes, was sentenced to 1 year and 6 months in prison.
A man in his 70s who caused a disturbance by demanding a date from a kindergarten teacher was sentenced to prison.
A was indicted for blocking a school bus while intoxicated and using abusive language in front of a kindergarten in Namdong-gu, Incheon, at around 8:05 a.m. on September 26 last year.
He is accused of causing a disturbance by demanding, "You look pretty, so let's go on a date," to a female teacher guiding kindergarten students to school.
A kindergarten teacher reported to 112 that "an intoxicated person is trying to enter the kindergarten and causing a commotion," and A was arrested on the spot by the police as a suspect caught in the act.
After being questioned for two hours and released, A returned to the kindergarten an hour later and threatened at the entrance, saying, "What did I do wrong for you to report me?" and "I will kill you."
It was found that A had a history of several prison sentences for charges including driver assault and retaliatory threats under the Act on the Aggravated Punishment of Specific Crimes.
The court stated, "The defendant obstructed the work of kindergarten staff and threatened the teacher with the intent to retaliate after being reported to the police," adding, "The nature of the crime is serious, so a strict punishment is necessary." However, the court also noted, "The defendant is showing remorse," and "considering his advanced age and poor health," as reasons for the sentencing decision.
