Gochang County in North Jeolla Province is recruiting new participants for the 2050 Carbon Neutrality Point System, aiming for "2050 Carbon Neutrality and Response to Climate Change Crisis."
According to the county on the 4th, the Carbon Neutrality Point System, jointly operated by the Ministry of Environment and Korea Environment Corporation, is a greenhouse gas reduction program that any county resident can participate in.
The support areas are divided into two methods: energy saving and reduction of vehicle mileage, with points awarded for each method.
In the energy sector, applications are accepted year-round through the Carbon Point System website for all county residents. Points are awarded based on the reduction rate by comparing the average monthly usage of electricity, water, and gas over the past 1-2 years with current usage.
Points are awarded for reducing energy usage by more than 5%, and up to 100,000 KRW per year is provided, calculated at up to 2 KRW per point.
In the automobile sector, applications can be made every year from February to March through the Automobile Carbon Point System website. After joining, participants must attach evidence such as photos of their vehicle license plate and odometer, and up to 100,000 KRW in cash is awarded based on the reduction in average daily driving distance before and after enrollment.
Ko Misuk, head of the Environmental Hygiene Division, said, "We will take the lead in increasing the participation rate of county residents by informing them that the Carbon Neutrality Point System is a program where environmental improvement through joining and expanding its practice is rewarded with cash or points, so that more people can receive benefits and realize a carbon-neutral city."
