Democratic Party Asan City Council Members Urge Hong Seongpyo to Withdraw Resignation as Chairman

"Irresponsible Decision Showing No Reflection or Sense of Responsibility for Wrongdoing"

Democratic Party Asan City Council Members Urge Hong Seongpyo to Withdraw Resignation as Chairman Asan City Council

On the 3rd, members of the Asan City Council in South Chungcheong Province, affiliated with the Democratic Party of Korea, criticized, "Chairman Hong Seongpyo withdrew his resignation on his own today," adding, "This is an irresponsible decision that shows no reflection or sense of responsibility for his wrongdoing."

The city council members released a statement late that day, urging Chairman Hong to resign immediately.

They stated, "On the 23rd, Chairman Hong submitted his resignation to the council office and publicly declared to citizens that he intended to step down from his position," adding, "He also asked the city council members to ensure the resignation proposal was passed, but suddenly changed his stance."

They continued, "We strongly condemn Chairman Hong's decision to withdraw his resignation and demand that he resubmit it immediately," and warned, "We will even consider a no-confidence vote to hold him accountable. Stop causing further confusion and fulfill your promise."

Previously, Chairman Hong caused controversy by attending his alma mater's graduation ceremony in an intoxicated state on the 10th of last month.

In relation to this, the city council members planned to handle Chairman Hong's resignation and elect a new chairman at the 254th extraordinary session on the 23rd, but the proposal was rejected with 7 votes in favor and 9 against.

Following this, Chairman Hong resubmitted his resignation to the council office on the same day and also submitted his withdrawal from the Democratic Party of Korea's South Chungcheong Provincial Party.

The South Chungcheong Provincial Party of the Democratic Party of Korea expelled Chairman Hong in accordance with party regulations after he left the party during disciplinary proceedings.
