The usage area for Gyeonggi-do Youth Basic Income will be expanded from the resident's city or county to the entire province starting this second half of the year, while the usage locations will be restricted.
On the 4th, Gyeonggi-do announced a reform plan covering three aspects: usage area, usage items, and payment method, to prevent inappropriate use of the Youth Basic Income?such as at karaoke rooms, motels, and bars?which deviates from its original purpose, and to enhance usability in areas with limited usage locations, including the northern region of Gyeonggi-do.
First, responding to youth requests that it is inconvenient to use the Youth Basic Income when residing in areas with few affiliated stores or employment preparation academies, the usage area will be expanded from the resident-registered city or county to the entire Gyeonggi-do province.
The usage items will be restricted to align with the purpose of the Youth Basic Income. Nine fields with high youth demand are specified: university tuition, language training, academy fees, examination fees, interview preparation expenses, startup rent, communication fees, housing costs (monthly rent), and culture, arts, and sports.
Additionally, the application and payment process will change from four quarterly applications and payments to a single application and lump-sum payment to improve convenience in application and usage. However, those born in 2000, who were eligible for new applications last year, will follow the existing method and must apply quarterly from the first to the fourth quarter this year.
The lump-sum payment of 1 million won in local currency upon a single application applies to those born in the first half of 2001, who are new applicants this year.
Applications can be made online through the Gyeonggi-do Job Foundation integrated application system (apply.jobaba.net). Those born in the first half of 2001 can apply in the third or fourth quarter of this year, and those born in the second half of 2001 can apply in the first or second quarter of next year. Exact application periods will be announced later.
The Gyeonggi-do Youth Basic Income is a representative youth policy of Gyeonggi-do that provides 1 million won in local currency regardless of income to 24-year-old youth who have resided continuously for more than three years or cumulatively for more than ten years in Gyeonggi-do, to support their future preparation during their social transition period.
