Japanese Prime Minister Shigeru Ishiba stated that he will carefully examine the impact of the Trump administration's tariff policies on Canada, Mexico, China, and others on global free trade.

According to Japan's public broadcaster NHK on the 3rd, Prime Minister Ishiba said at the House of Representatives Budget Committee that regarding the U.S. government's tariff policy, "We will thoroughly investigate the background of the decision, whether it aligns with the national interests of the United States, and what impact it will have on global free trade in the future."


Regarding President Trump's announcement to withdraw from the Paris Agreement on climate change after taking office, Ishiba said, "We must analyze how the United States will proceed from now on," and added, "Japan will continue to demand appropriate U.S. involvement to combat global warming."


Concerning the agenda for the upcoming U.S.-Japan summit to be held in Washington D.C. on the 7th, Ishiba highlighted semiconductors as a key topic. He said, "I am well aware that President Trump has a very strong awareness of semiconductors," and added, "I want to share the importance of U.S.-Japan cooperation on semiconductors."
