Sam Altman, CEO of OpenAI, announced that the 'OpenAI Builder Lab Seoul' event held in Korea on the 4th will be a hands-on event designed to assist development and innovation using AI.

Sam Altman and the OpenAI leadership team will use this conference to provide domestic AI company CEOs and CTO-level developers with sessions on the optimal development methods tailored to user cases by utilizing the OpenAI API (Application Programming Interface). The event will be a private gathering held at a hotel in Jung-gu, Seoul, with attendance limited to those who received prior invitations.

At the conference, Sam Altman will also continue his connections with Korean AI startups. Ten startup CEOs and developers who had established ties with OpenAI through the 'Global Corporate Collaboration Program' jointly promoted by OpenAI and Korea's Ministry of SMEs and Startups in 2023 were invited. The invited startups include Asleep, Client, DK MediInfo, MarinaChain, NextPayments, NineWatt, RunKoreanInKorean, Turing, Waddle, and WeRaiser.

Sam Altman expressed his commitment to cooperation with the Korean AI ecosystem during his first visit to Korea in June 2023. In the same year, OpenAI selected startups to form collaborative partnerships. These startups visited OpenAI’s headquarters in Silicon Valley, USA, in March last year to discuss directions for collaboration. Each company also received up to 200 million KRW in cooperation funds from OpenAI.

A startup CEO attending the conference said, "I sent questions about the AI industry in advance via email," adding, "With the significant changes occurring in the AI ecosystem due to DeepSikro, I am looking forward to tomorrow’s conference." In addition to startups, developers from large companies such as Naver Cloud were also invited. Attendees will explore new features with the OpenAI leadership team and participate in Q&A sessions.

CEO Altman is also expected to appear at a press conference with Jeong Ah, CEO of Kakao, held at the same venue. Following the Builder Lab event, CEO Jeong plans to announce Kakao’s AI-related direction, drawing attention to potential cooperation between the two companies. However, Kakao stated, "It is difficult to confirm Sam Altman’s attendance. Any collaboration with OpenAI will be disclosed during the press conference."

Meanwhile, in an interview with Japan’s Nihon Keizai Shimbun on the 3rd, CEO Altman proposed the establishment of an AI safety monitoring organization similar to the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA). He also expressed his intention to directly develop AI semiconductors. During this visit, meetings with Samsung Electronics and SK are scheduled, raising expectations for discussions on cooperation in the semiconductor sector.
