Compose Coffee Raises Iced Americano Price... "Unavoidable Due to Soaring Coffee Bean Costs"

Compose Coffee announced on the 3rd that starting from the 13th, the prices of iced Americano and decaffeinated iced Americano will each increase by 300 won. Accordingly, the iced Americano price will rise from 1,500 won to 1,800 won, and the decaffeinated iced Americano price will increase from 2,500 won to 2,800 won.

This is the first time Compose Coffee has raised the price of iced Americano since the brand's launch in 2014. A Compose Coffee representative explained the reason for the menu price increase, stating, "Due to the sharp rise in coffee bean prices, increased labor costs, higher logistics expenses, and raw material price hikes, it has become difficult to maintain the existing pricing policy." However, Compose Coffee decided to keep the price of hot Americano at the current 1,500 won.

Recently, coffee bean prices have been on the rise. According to the Korea Agro-Fisheries & Food Trade Corporation (aT), as of the 31st of last month, the price of Arabica beans reached a record high of $8,330 per ton (approximately 12.23 million won), up 18.2% compared to the previous month. The price of Robusta beans also hit a record high of $5,734 per ton (approximately 8.42 million won) on the 30th of last month, a 13.9% increase from the previous month.

Following the rise in coffee bean prices, coffee shops have been raising their menu prices as well. Starbucks Korea increased the prices of 22 tall-size beverages by 200 to 300 won starting from the 24th of last month, and Hollys Coffee also raised prices of some products by 200 to 300 won from the same day. Paul Bassett increased prices of major products by 200 to 400 won starting from the 23rd of last month.
