Maximizing Data Utilization
Data analysis and artificial intelligence (AI) specialist company Vegas announced on the 3rd that it has recently developed a ‘Synthetic Data’ generation technique that maximizes data utilization while controlling the risk of personal information leakage. The main technology using Vegas’s synthetic data generation technique, the ‘Synthetic Data Automatic Generation System,’ has already completed patent registration.
Synthetic data is data generated in a special form to protect individual respondents' personal information while maintaining the statistical characteristics of the original data. Statistical inference values such as totals or averages are similar to the original data, but even if the similarity is high, the information of individual respondents is not exposed because it is synthesized data. A Vegas representative explained, "The synthetic data generation technique we have researched and developed can simultaneously satisfy the two values of data protection and openness," adding, "The government can use it when making important policy decisions in areas such as employment, welfare, and the economy, and companies can actively utilize synthetic data when conducting market trend and consumer behavior analyses."
Lee Mi-hee, head of Vegas’s Research and Development (R&D) Center, said, "Synthetic data technology is an important challenge and core technology that balances data protection and utilization," and added, "Vegas will continue not only to develop AI and data analysis technologies but also to research the latest information security technologies for the safe use of data."
