On the 3rd, Seo-gu District of Gwangju (District Mayor Kim Ikang) awarded the "Heartful Person" commendation to Kim Juyeon, the head of Pungam-dong 33rd Tong, and Professor Lee Bongseon of the Global Culinary and Baking Department at Dongkang University, recognizing their contributions to the development of the district at the regular award ceremony.

Kim Juyeon has been living in Pungam-dong since 2000, building deep trust with local residents. Since being recommended for the position of Tong leader in January 2019, she has demonstrated sincerity and warmth by personally delivering side dishes and holiday meals to low-income families and elderly people living alone, putting love for neighbors into action.

She also completed the "Beautiful Story Grandmother" program, sharing fairy tales and traditional stories at after-school care centers and kindergartens to help foster children's emotional development. Notably, at the "2024 Pungam-dong Maple Festival" held last year, her storytelling volunteer work received a great response from residents.

Professor Lee Bongseon, an expert in Japanese cuisine and culinary arts, has been teaching at the Global Culinary and Baking Department of Dongkang University since 2016. Through programs such as "Master Success School" and "Youth Restaurant Startup Academy," she has provided trainees with practical know-how in accounting, customer service, and recipe development, leading to high satisfaction among participants.

In particular, at the end of last year, during the Jeju Air passenger plane accident, she took the initiative in volunteer activities by visiting Muan with Master Chef An Yuseong to provide 700 servings of abalone porridge to support the bereaved families.

Kim Ikang, Mayor of Seo-gu District, said, "The 'Kind City Seo-gu' shines even brighter thanks to those who devote themselves throughout the community," and added, "We will continue to actively discover and support the unsung heroes who are building a warm community."
