The Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries announced on the 3rd that Jeon Jae-woo, former Director-General of Planning and Coordination at the Ministry, has been appointed as the 8th President of the Korea Institute of Marine Science and Technology Promotion (KIMST).
President Jeon began his public service career in 1995 (38th Administrative Examination) and has held key domestic and international positions in the marine and fisheries sector, including Director-General of the Shipping and Logistics Bureau, Director of Fisheries Policy, Head of Shipping Policy Division, Director of Fisheries Policy, Head of Food Industry Division, Head of Port Operations Division, and First Secretary at the Korean Embassy in the United States.
He is recognized as a policy expert with diverse practical experience and profound insight and sensibility across various fields of marine and fisheries such as shipping, ports, fisheries, and aquaculture.
In particular, while serving recently as Director-General of Planning and Coordination, he contributed to the passage of six enactment laws including the Autonomous Ship Act, and secured the largest-ever budget for the Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries, actively promoting major national agendas and policies in the marine and fisheries sector.
President Jeon stated, "The institute will play a pivotal role in the field of marine and fisheries science and technology, contributing to the seamless advancement of current issues such as generating research and development (R&D) outcomes and nurturing future core research personnel."
