Record Monthly Sales Volume
Hyundai Motor Company and Kia announced on the 3rd that they sold 116,362 units in the United States in January, setting a record for the highest monthly sales volume.
Hyundai Motor Company (including Genesis) sold 59,355 units, a 14.6% increase compared to the same period last year, while Kia achieved sales of 57,007 units, up 11.6%. Genesis also saw a 13.7% increase year-over-year, selling 4,852 units.
The company explained, "There was almost no impact from the Lunar New Year holiday in January," adding, "In the U.S., wholesale sales are counted based on dealer arrivals, so there is a lead time of more than 1.5 months after production."
The Hyundai Tucson led the performance with 15,025 units sold, followed by the Avante (8,866 units) and Santa Fe (8,296 units). Kia's new model K4 sold 11,410 units, followed by the Sportage (11,357 units) and Telluride (8,771 units).
Genesis saw strong sales in high-value SUV models. The GV70 sold 2,021 units, a 27.5% increase, and the GV80 recorded 1,604 units (48.8%). The combined share of GV70 and GV80 accounted for 74.7% of total sales.
Eco-friendly vehicles, including hybrids, sold 23,338 units, a 30.3% increase compared to the previous year. The proportion of eco-friendly vehicles in total sales rose by 2.7 percentage points year-over-year to 20.1%.
The sales breakdown includes Tucson Hybrid (5,042 units, 68%), Santa Fe Hybrid (2,667 units, 82.7%), Sportage Hybrid (2,807 units, 7.8%), Carnival Hybrid (1,772 units, new model), and Sorento Hybrid (1,627 units, 27.1%).
Electric vehicles (EVs) increased by 1.8% to 6,747 units sold. The Ioniq 5 recorded 2,250 units (53.6%), the Ioniq 6 sold 871 units (14.6%), and the EV6 reached 1,542 units (27.1%).
