Mercury Targets Smart Home IoT Market... First Domestic AP Matter Certification Achieved

Mercury, a specialized information and communication equipment company, has integrated the Matter standard into its WiFi access points (AP) and has become the first in Korea to obtain the global standard alliance (Connectivity Standards Alliance, CSA) Matter 1.3 certification.

On the 3rd, a Mercury official stated, "Unlike Matter standalone products certified by major domestic home appliance companies and some small and medium-sized enterprises, this is the first domestic achievement integrating WiFi AP and Matter hub," adding, "We have established a leading position by driving the spread of the Matter standard in the global smart home market."

Mercury, the largest WiFi AP supplier in Korea, offers the 'WiFi AP integrated Matter hub,' an innovative product that combines the existing WiFi AP functions with smart home Matter hub functions into one. Supporting both WiFi and Thread, it is easy to install and convenient to use, making it easier for consumers to build smart homes.

The Matter 1.3 certification obtained by Mercury is the latest version, enabling interoperability with devices such as washer-dryers, cooktops, ovens, microwaves, water valves, leak detectors, rain sensors, and water freeze detectors, which were not supported in version 1.2.

Leveraging its outstanding capabilities in WiFi, artificial intelligence (AI) technology, and smart home devices, Mercury is contributing to the development of the smart home industry both domestically and internationally. Through this CSA certification, the company plans to promote collaboration with related companies such as telecommunications operators and home appliance manufacturers, further strengthening its competitiveness in the smart home market.

In particular, Mercury is pursuing expansion into the energy management sector based on smart home technology. By utilizing the Matter standard to link smart appliances with energy management systems, it plans to provide solutions that maximize energy efficiency.

Mercury’s subsidiary, Ejex, has already completed interoperability of eight smart energy devices with Samsung SmartThings and LG Electronics ThinQ, and is currently working on integration with Mercury’s Matter AP. The company explained that through this, it aims to realize the convergence of smart home technology and energy management solutions, leading the way in building a more sustainable smart environment.

A Mercury official said, "The launch of the WiFi AP-based Matter hub will not only accelerate the growth of the global smart home ecosystem but also create a sustainable future through the convergence of energy management and smart home technologies," adding, "We will advance as a leading smart home solution company in the global market."

He continued, "Mercury will play a key role in the smart home market, which is expected to grow to a scale of 100 trillion won," and "Based on global competitiveness and this certification, we expect to secure a more advantageous position in the U.S. market."

Meanwhile, amid a large-scale investigation by the U.S. Department of Commerce and the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) into a Chinese telecommunications equipment company due to security risks, Mercury is preparing for full-scale supply after obtaining certification for wireless routers destined for North America.
