Yangsan-si Health Center Conducts Winter Larvae Control Pest Control

Focused Management of Vulnerable Areas Such as Old Downtown and Residential Neighborhoods

Gyeongnam Yangsan City Health Center will conduct larval control disinfection starting in February, focusing on the old downtown area, residential neighborhoods, and apartment complexes with fewer than 300 households, as the activity period of mosquito larvae advances due to climate change.

Larval control disinfection involves applying larvicidal agents to septic tanks and sewers where mosquitoes typically reside to avoid the cold. Eliminating one larva effectively eradicates about 500 adult mosquitoes, maximizing efficiency in terms of time and cost.

Additionally, from April to October, for approximately seven months, a mobile quarantine team will be organized to perform spraying, misting, and fogging disinfection at least five times a week in areas suspected of harboring sanitary pests, such as rivers, grasslands, forest boundaries, and sewers.

In particular, Yangsan City uses low-toxicity, U-grade eco-friendly insecticides recommended by the WHO, and since 2024, has expanded eco-friendly disinfection by diluting disinfectants with water instead of diesel fuel during spraying.

A health center official stated, “We will do our best to prevent vector-borne infectious diseases through proactive larval control and thorough disinfection,” and urged, “We ask citizens to actively participate in environmental maintenance by checking for and eliminating standing water in places like discarded tires or empty flowerpots, which can serve as mosquito breeding and larval habitats.”
