Newbotec announced on the 3rd that its self-developed modular rainwater storage tank system has obtained a patent, drawing attention as an innovative technology to solve urban environmental issues. This patent is evaluated as a technological achievement that simultaneously enhances rainwater management and construction efficiency, and is expected to make a significant impact in the domestic and international environmental technology markets.
This invention was developed based on the results of the research projects "Development of a Smart Rainwater Reuse System for Localized Heavy Rainfall Response" and "LID-based Vegetated Rainwater Runoff Management," supported by the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport and the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy. The technology is designed to reduce non-point source pollution problems caused by urbanization and flood risks from localized heavy rainfall, and through this, Newbotec has proposed a smart and sustainable rainwater management solution.
Rainwater storage tanks are known as key infrastructure that temporarily stores rainwater that cannot infiltrate underground due to urbanization and controls runoff into rivers to prevent floods and inundation. Newbotec’s modular storage tank is attracting attention with a design differentiated from conventional concrete-based storage tanks.
The patented storage tank system adopts an efficient modular structure composed of a top plate, guide plate, bottom plate, and connecting members. Each component is symmetrically designed, allowing unrestricted assembly direction and easy installation. The guide plate is equipped with multiple outlet holes to induce the natural flow of rainwater, and the drainage section of the bottom plate minimizes flood and inundation damage through efficient drainage.
In particular, Newbotec applied GMT (Glass-fiber Mat Reinforced Thermoplastic), a high-strength composite material, to solve the heavy weight problem of conventional concrete methods. The lightweight structure provides convenience in transportation and installation, and work can be performed without special equipment, significantly reducing construction time.
This patent received high evaluation for enhancing the efficiency and durability of rainwater storage tanks based on Newbotec’s self-developed modular design and connecting member technology. A Newbotec official stated, “Obtaining this patent will increase trust in our technological capabilities and strengthen Newbotec’s position in the environmental technology market,” adding, “We plan to continuously develop related technologies to build a sustainable urban environment.”
He also added, “This modular rainwater storage tank will play a significant role as sustainable infrastructure to solve environmental problems caused by urbanization,” and “We plan to introduce products that can be utilized under various environmental conditions.”
Meanwhile, Newbotec’s modular rainwater storage tank system is gaining attention in the environmental technology market and is expected to play an important role in urban environmental improvement and water quality management within the rapidly growing global water reuse market.
