2,000 Researchers Move In Sequentially During Lunar New Year Holiday
Strengthening the Role as an R&D Control Tower

LG Electronics has completed a research complex in Magok where 10,000 research and development (R&D) personnel are concentrated. It is the largest single-company R&D center in Seoul, and the role of the research control tower is expected to be strengthened.

On the 3rd, LG Electronics announced that it had completed the expansion of four research buildings at LG Science Park in Magok-dong, Gangseo-gu, Seoul. As a result, the number of LG Electronics research buildings within LG Science Park increased from six to ten, completing an R&D control tower where about 10,000 domestic R&D personnel are concentrated.

The total gross floor area of LG Electronics research buildings within LG Science Park is 125,000 pyeong, and the site area is 21,000 pyeong, making it the largest single-company R&D center in Seoul. LG Electronics stated that operating a large-scale R&D center in the Seoul area is expected to play a positive role in securing excellent R&D talent in the future.

Starting from the Lunar New Year holiday, about 2,000 researchers working at Seocho R&D Campus, Yangjae R&D Campus, and Gasan R&D Campus began sequentially moving into the newly established research buildings at LG Science Park.

Most of the R&D personnel belonging to the CTO division, which leads advanced technology R&D, and four business divisions (HS/MS/VS/ES) will gather and work at LG Science Park. LG Science Park will further strengthen its role as an R&D control tower leading the development of locally optimized products at 23 overseas research institutes and the execution of R&D projects led by headquarters.

Additionally, 1,000 researchers who were working at the existing LG Science Park have also moved to the new research buildings to work there.

In particular, with this expansion, LG Electronics has enabled researchers to work in a wider and more comfortable environment, thereby improving work efficiency. To prevent difficulties in childcare caused by the change of workplace for employees moving to the new research buildings, LG Electronics also expanded the 'LG Electronics Magok Daycare Center' with a capacity of 100 children. Including the existing workplace daycare centers, the total capacity of workplace daycare centers within LG Science Park has increased to about 460 children.

LG Electronics also established an employee safety experience center within the research buildings. The purpose is to prevent safety accidents in advance and minimize damage in case of emergencies by allowing researchers to virtually experience safety accidents that may occur in laboratories. The safety experience center plans to operate a total of 18 safety-related experience contents, including fire evacuation, safety glasses performance, safety shoe impact, and chemical reaction.

LG Electronics aims to be a 'Smart Life Solution' company that connects and expands customers' spaces and experiences, and is promoting a business system transformation that provides customers with a more holistic experience. In this context, it plans to continuously strengthen synergy from a future convergence and fusion perspective by focusing R&D capabilities.

With this expansion, the total number of research buildings in LG Science Park increased from 22 to 26. LG Science Park is a convergence research complex with a site area of about 170,000 square meters (approximately 54,000 pyeong), equivalent to 24 soccer fields, making it the largest in Korea. Including LG Electronics, LG Display, LG Innotek, LG Chem, LG Energy Solution, LG Household & Health Care, LG Uplus, and other affiliates' R&D organizations, as well as partners and startups, a total of about 25,000 people work there.
