Gyeonggi Yangju City (Mayor Kang Su-hyun) announced on the 2nd that it will support cleaning costs of up to 700,000 KRW per business for restaurants designated with hygiene grades within the city.
The Restaurant Hygiene Grade System is a certification system implemented by the Ministry of Food and Drug Safety since 2017. It evaluates food service establishments (general restaurants, bakeries, cafes, etc.) based on 64 items across three categories to create a clean and hygienic dining environment, awarding hygiene grades in three levels (Excellent, Very Good, Good) according to the results.
The support targets 24 establishments including general restaurants, bakeries, and cafes that have been designated with hygiene grades for more than one year as of the application date. Support will be provided on a first-come, first-served basis until the budget is exhausted.
The scope of support covers cleaning costs for customer seating areas (ceilings, floors, walls), kitchen facilities (including ventilation), heating and cooling equipment, refrigerators, and freezers, with up to 700,000 KRW available per business.
Business owners wishing to receive cleaning cost support can apply by visiting the Hygiene Department on the 2nd floor of Yangju City Public Health Center.
A Yangju City official stated, “Through this cleaning cost support project, we hope that local hygiene businesses will take an interest in the hygiene grade system and actively participate. We will do our best to create a clean and safe dining environment and improve hygiene levels and food poisoning prevention through various support and management of hygiene grade designated businesses in the future.”
Meanwhile, designation and evaluation of restaurant hygiene grades can be easily applied for through the Ministry of Food and Drug Safety’s integrated civil complaint consultation website.
