Utilizing Idle Rural Spaces
Expectations for Revitalizing Youth Communities
Haenam County in Jeollanam-do (Governor Myung Hyun-gwan) announced on the 31st that it will establish two additional 'Doodream House' youth cultural spaces.
Doodream House is a project that utilizes unused rural spaces to expand cultural exchange venues for local youth, such as youth hangouts, shared offices, and cultural exhibitions. It has received positive feedback as it both revitalizes youth communities and improves rural spaces at the township level.

In 2023, an abandoned billiard hall in Bukpyeong-myeon was transformed into a shared workspace capable of hosting cultural planning exhibitions and programs. Last year, a closed restaurant in Songji-myeon was renovated to become a vibrant networking space for local youth, hosting book clubs, special lectures by invited writers, and various programs. This year, two locations will be supported, with up to 20 million KRW provided per site.
Eligible applicants are groups or organizations consisting of at least 10 youth residing in township areas of Haenam County. They can receive support for facility renovation costs according to their needs. Applications are accepted until the budget is exhausted, and details on eligibility and required documents can be found on the Haenam County website.
An official from the county said, "By supporting renovation costs for youth activity spaces, we expect to promote the activation of youth communities and encourage stable settlement in the region."
