Ministry of the Interior and Safety Urgently Inspects African Swine Fever Prevention Site in Yangju City

The Ministry of the Interior and Safety visited Yangju City, Gyeonggi Province on the 31st to conduct an emergency inspection of the African Swine Fever (ASF) quarantine situation.

Yangju City is a location where ASF has recently occurred repeatedly, situated at a key point near large-scale pig farms in Pocheon City, Dongducheon City, and Yeoncheon County in Gyeonggi Province, requiring even more thorough quarantine measures.

Hong Jong-wan, Director of the Social Disaster Division at the Ministry of the Interior and Safety, reviewed the ASF quarantine measures of Gyeonggi Province and Yangju City, urging the full mobilization of quarantine capabilities to prevent the spread of ASF.

He also visited a base disinfection facility to inspect the quarantine management status of workers and livestock vehicles, as well as winter measures to prevent freezing damage to disinfection facilities.

Since the 49th ASF outbreak in December last year, the government has conducted detailed and clinical inspections, cleaning, and disinfection targeting farms epidemiologically linked to quarantine zones and slaughterhouses. Nationwide farms were collectively disinfected before and after the Lunar New Year holiday, and publicity was strengthened during the holiday period to prevent visitors from entering pig farms and adjacent roads.

Director Hong said, "We will make every effort with related agencies to prevent the spread of ASF," and added, "We ask farmers to strictly adhere to quarantine rules."
