Jongno-gu to Build Wooden 'Kids Cafe' in Samcheong Park

Transforming Samcheong Park into a Complex Cultural Space
Completion Targeted for December Next Year

A park-type kids cafe that children and the whole family can use as an indoor playground will be created in Samcheong Neighborhood Park, Jongno-gu, Seoul. It is an eco-friendly wooden structure with a goal to be completed by the end of next year.

The site is a park area opposite the Samcheong Tennis Court (Samcheong-dong 1-6), which, unlike the bustling surroundings such as the Blue House, Gyeongbokgung Palace, and Samcheong-dong, is quiet and peaceful, boasting beautiful scenery all year round.

Jongno-gu plans to create a complex cultural space here that combines not only a playground but also a scenic cafe where visitors can enjoy the wonderful natural landscape while playing and relaxing. The district office, in cooperation with Seoul City, aims to complete all procedures for project promotion by March this year and hold a design competition in March-April. After basic and detailed design stages, construction is scheduled to begin next year, with completion targeted for December of the same year.

Samcheong Neighborhood Park already has the ‘Samcheong Park Infant Forest Experience Center,’ where children can enjoy forest experiences, connect with nature, and strengthen family bonds. Opposite it stands the ‘Samcheong Park Forest Library,’ praised in a New York Times column as a healing space designed in a modern city full of the latest technology. The Samcheong Park Forest Library was created over ten years ago when Jongno-gu remodeled an old, worn-out park kiosk at the corner of the park.

With the completion of the park-type kids cafe by the end of next year, Samcheong Park is expected to become an urban healing space where the whole family can rest in nature and children can run and play throughout the four seasons, nurturing their dreams.

Jung Munheon, Mayor of Jongno-gu, stated, “We will create safe and distinctive spaces that capture the hearts of both children and families throughout Jongno. Please look forward to the park-type kids cafe, which will be even more special and eco-friendly as it is built with wooden architecture.”
