"North Korean Troops Charge Without Body Armor... 1980s Tactics"

Not Prepared for Modern Warfare Such as Drones
Evidence of Indoctrination Found in Recovered Belongings

North Korean troops deployed on the Russian Kursk front are reportedly engaging in reckless human wave attacks reminiscent of 'kamikaze' (suicide squads) to confront Ukraine's advanced weaponry.

"North Korean Troops Charge Without Body Armor... 1980s Tactics" Two North Korean soldiers captured as prisoners by Ukrainian forces on January 9 in Kursk Oblast, Russia. Ukrainian English-language media Euromaidan Press.

On the 28th (local time), the US CNN introduced footage obtained from the Ukrainian Special Operations Forces and interviews with officials, describing the behavior of North Korean soldiers on the battlefield as "suicidal impulses and 1980s-style tactics."

The footage obtained by foreign media showed Ukrainian soldiers approaching a fallen North Korean soldier after combat and pulling his leg to check if he was alive. The soldier screamed and detonated a grenade near his head. The foreign media cited a National Intelligence Service report to the National Assembly, explaining that the last scream uttered by the North Korean soldier referred to "General Kim Jong-un."

A Special Operations Forces commander said, "They can blow themselves up using grenades," adding, "Despite any attempts to demand surrender, they continue fighting." However, he pointed out, "The North Korean troops are not prepared for the realities of the Ukrainian battlefield, such as modern drone warfare," and "Although they are all young, well-trained, and strong warriors, they are only prepared for the warfare realities of the 1980s." Another Special Operations Forces commander criticized, "Our unit killed 30 of them a day just by dropping bombs over their heads," and said, "They do not understand what they need to do."

However, traces of North Korean troops' efforts to figure out how to respond to drones were revealed through captured materials. A handwritten note titled "How to Destroy Drones" included instructions such as, "When a drone is detected, one out of three must act as bait 10?12 meters ahead, while the other two perform aimed shooting," and "Another method is to hide in a pit since shells do not fall in the same spot."

Nevertheless, the North Korean troops repeatedly charge despite suffering severe losses. Some North Korean soldiers reportedly discard the protective plates of their heavy body armor and ballistic helmets to lighten their bodies and quickly attack Ukrainian positions. This type of attack is said to be difficult to detect with drones.

Additionally, among the North Korean troops' captured materials were notes stating, "The day to deliver the death hammer to the unknown puppet trash is near," "We wield a powerful force that makes them tremble," and "World, watch closely." Other notes, believed to be written by officers, contained criticisms such as, "He committed an unimaginably disgraceful act of stealing supplies," and "He failed to uphold the dignity of the Supreme Commander and prioritized personal gain."

Foreign media explained, "It is unclear whether these notes come from genuine feelings or are meant to prove loyalty and protect families in case of death."
