Korean Air Establishes Group-Level Support System
for Air Busan Aircraft Fire Incident
Korean Air has dispatched safety and maintenance executives and established a response system to support victims in relation to the recent fire on an Air Busan aircraft, which was recently incorporated into the group.
On the 29th, Korean Air announced, "We are activating a group-level support system for the Air Busan passenger plane fire incident that occurred at Gimhae International Airport."
Accordingly, executives from the Aviation Safety Strategy Office, led by Vice President Choi Jeong-ho, and the head of the maintenance division were dispatched to the site. They are cooperating with Air Busan to support passengers and investigate the accident. Vice President Choi previously served as the CEO of Jin Air, Korean Air's low-cost carrier (LCC).
Korean Air also deployed temporary flights on the Air Busan Busan?Gimpo route, which was canceled due to the fire incident. These include four flights: KE1883 and KE1885 from Gimpo to Busan, and KE1884 and KE1886 from Busan to Gimpo.
Earlier, Korean Air completed the corporate merger with Asiana Airlines, incorporating Asiana Airlines' LCC subsidiaries Air Busan and Air Seoul as its grandchild companies.
The previous night, a fire broke out inside the tail section of Air Busan flight BX391, bound for Hong Kong, while preparing for takeoff at Busan Gimhae Airport with 176 passengers and crew on board. Before the flames fully engulfed the cabin, all onboard successfully evacuated using emergency slides, preventing major casualties.
