The preference for Japan as an overseas holiday travel destination has become more prominent over the past two years, coinciding with the weak yen phenomenon. In 2022, the top travel destinations were Los Angeles, USA (Lunar New Year) and Bangkok, Thailand (Chuseok), while in 2020 and 2021, Da Nang, Vietnam and Manila, Philippines were the most visited destinations.

Until 2022, various travel destinations in North America and Europe were ranked within the top 10, but from 2023, all top 10 destinations are Asian countries. Between 2020 and 2022, airports such as New York, USA, San Francisco, USA, Amsterdam, Netherlands, Frankfurt, Germany, Dubai, United Arab Emirates, and Singapore Airport were included among the top 10 airports based on holiday passenger numbers. However, from 2023 to 2024, passenger numbers traveling to and from Asian countries including Japan, Thailand, Vietnam, Taiwan, the Philippines, Hong Kong, and China occupied the top 10 rankings.

Meanwhile, during this Lunar New Year holiday period, it is expected that more than 2 million passengers will use Incheon Airport. According to the 'Incheon Airport Lunar New Year holiday passenger forecast' data received by Assemblyman Jeon from Incheon International Airport Corporation and others, from the 24th of last month to the 2nd of next month, the number of passengers using Incheon Airport is projected to reach a total of 2,141,101, with 1,046,647 departing passengers and 1,094,454 arriving passengers. This averages about 214,110 passengers per day. This figure represents a 12.8% increase compared to the 189,815 passengers during last year's Lunar New Year holiday period. By date, the highest number of passengers is expected on the 25th with 227,725 passengers, followed by 227,217 on the 26th, and 224,885 on the 24th.
