Kim Dong-yeon Visits Uiwang Dokkaebi Market, Purchases Lunar New Year Goods and Encourages Merchants

Gyeonggi Province Governor Kim Dong-yeon visited the ‘Uiwang Dokkaebi Market’ located in Samdong, Uiwang City on the 26th ahead of the Lunar New Year to inspect the livelihood site and encourage the merchants.

The Uiwang Dokkaebi Market suffered significant damage last November when the market arcade collapsed due to wet snow during a heavy snowfall, causing many stores to close.

At that time, Governor Kim visited the Dokkaebi Market to comfort and encourage the merchants, promising, "We will provide the necessary support so that the merchants can resume their business as soon as possible."

Accordingly, Gyeonggi Province prepared a livelihood recovery plan related to the heavy snowfall in December last year and provided a special adjustment grant of 1.6 billion KRW to support the restoration of the Dokkaebi Market, as well as agricultural and fishery markets and sports facilities damaged by the snowfall.

On this day, Governor Kim visited the damaged site again and emphasized, "You must have had a hard time because of the snow last time, but we will do our best to restore it quickly."

He then toured stores selling fruits and vegetables, dried seafood, and mills, checking prices.

Governor Kim personally purchased fruits, jeon (Korean pancakes), steamed buns, and chestnuts, using a shopping basket and reusable containers.

Meanwhile, Gyeonggi Province is operating a price countermeasure team to stabilize prices of holiday essentials, and to help local small business owners struggling due to the ongoing economic downturn overcome the crisis and stimulate consumption, it has increased the purchase incentives and limits for the Gyeonggi local currency until the end of January.
