Court also 'denies' Yoon's reapplication for detention extension... Prosecution likely to indict soon

Prosecution Reapplies Only Four Hours After Court's Denial, but Request Rejected Again
Must Decide on Indictment Within First Detention Period
Decision Expected as Early as the 26th

The court once again denied the extension of President Yoon Seok-yeol's detention period. The prosecution immediately reapplied with strengthened reasons for the extension, but the court made the same decision. Accordingly, the prosecution must decide whether to indict President Yoon within the first detention period.

Court also 'denies' Yoon's reapplication for detention extension... Prosecution likely to indict soon Yonhap News

On the 25th, the Special Investigation Headquarters for Emergency Martial Law of the Prosecution (Head: Park Se-hyun, Chief Prosecutor of Seoul High Prosecutors' Office) stated, "The extension of the detention period was denied," adding, "The reasons are similar to those of the previous day."

After Judge Kim Seok-beom, who was in charge of warrants at the Seoul Central District Court, denied the extension of President Yoon's detention period the previous day, the prosecution reapplied around 2 a.m., about four hours later. However, on the same day, Judge Choi Min-hye of the Criminal Division 26, who was the duty judge, also ruled that "the necessity and validity of extending the detention period are not recognized."

The court had previously denied the extension, stating that it was difficult to see a reasonable reason for the prosecution to continue the investigation in a case where the High-ranking Officials' Crime Investigation Office (Gongjucho) prosecutor had conducted the investigation and then attached a request for indictment and sent it to the prosecution office.

Substantive investigations into President Yoon have not been conducted by Gongjucho, and the prosecution has not been able to conduct additional investigations, so it is expected that the indictment process will proceed.

The prosecution considers the first detention period to last until the 27th, but the decision on whether to indict is expected to be made earlier, around the 26th.
