Yangsan City in Gyeongnam is implementing the 'Lunar New Year Holiday Livestock Infectious Disease Prevention Measures' to block the spread of highly pathogenic avian influenza (AI), African swine fever (ASF), and other diseases during the Lunar New Year holiday period.
The city is collaborating with the Yangsan Gijang Livestock Cooperative to focus disinfection efforts on vulnerable areas such as livestock farms, facilities, and migratory bird habitats. At the same time, it is actively promoting quarantine measures to livestock-related personnel and the general public through banners, text messages (SMS), village broadcasts, and social networking services (SNS).
The main promotional points include ▲Operation of a nationwide disinfection day before and after the holiday (24th and 31st) ▲Prohibition of livestock-related meetings and events ▲Thorough monitoring and reporting of suspected infected livestock ▲Refraining from visits to livestock farms and migratory bird habitats by returning visitors ▲Avoiding travel to countries with outbreaks of livestock infectious diseases and banning the illegal import of livestock products.
Additionally, during the holiday period (25th to 30th), the city plans to maintain an emergency response system by operating a quarantine situation room, key disinfection facilities, two control checkpoints, and an egg transshipment center to handle disease reports, conduct telephone monitoring, and control and disinfect livestock vehicles.
A Yangsan City official stated, “Since there are many cases of livestock infectious diseases nationwide before and after the holiday, thorough on-site quarantine and disinfection are crucial.” He emphasized, “Efforts from both the general public and livestock-related personnel are important to minimize damage to livestock farms and to ensure the production of safe livestock products and price stabilization.”
