Jang Hojong, Deputy Mayor for Economic and Scientific Affairs of Daejeon City, held his retirement ceremony at the city hall’s main auditorium on the 24th, marking the end of his public service career.


Deputy Mayor Jang reflected, “Daejeon is a city with the potential to become a global center of economy and science and technology, beyond just South Korea,” adding, “The moments I shared with all of you in pursuit of creating a world-class economic city have been a great blessing for me.”


He continued, “Although I am now stepping down from public office, I will gladly help in any way I can as a citizen who loves Daejeon,” and said, “With the leadership of Mayor Lee Jangwoo and the passion of all public officials, I have no doubt that Daejeon will become an even better place to live. I will enjoy watching and supporting that process.”


Prior to the retirement ceremony, Deputy Mayor Jang visited all departments at city hall to personally thank the staff who worked with him to build Daejeon as a world-class economic city, and received a plaque of appreciation from Mayor Lee Jangwoo.


Deputy Mayor Jang graduated from Daedeok High School and the Department of Electronic Engineering at Chungnam National University, as well as the university’s graduate school. In 2008, he served as a senior researcher and professor at KAIST, and in January 2024, he was appointed Deputy Mayor for Economic and Scientific Affairs of Daejeon City.
