Jeonnam Provincial Council Holds Meeting for Successful Hosting of 2026 Yeosu Island Expo

Inspection of Expo Venue Facilities and Construction

The Special Committee for the Revitalization of the 2026 Yeosu World Island Expo of the Jeonnam Provincial Council announced on the 24th that it held a meeting at Jinmo District in Dolsan, Yeosu, together with the Expo Organizing Committee, to review the current progress of the Expo.


The '2026 Yeosu World Island Expo', under the theme 'Islands, Connecting the Sea and the Future', is scheduled to be held for two months from September 5 to November 4 next year, at Jinmo District in Dolsan, Yeosu, as well as Gaedo and Geumodo. This Expo is drawing attention as the first international event where countries with islands gather to share the history and culture of islands.

During the meeting, discussions focused on cooperation strategies between the central government and Jeonnam Province for the successful hosting of the Expo, as well as promotional strategies to encourage participation from local residents and tourists. In particular, in-depth discussions were held on attracting tourists, resolving transportation issues, and managing safety measures.


Chairman Choi Mugyeong stated, "The Yeosu World Island Expo holds significance beyond just an event. I hope preparations will ensure that the Expo becomes an opportunity to enhance competitiveness and value in the international community," and urged thorough preparations to make the most of this opportunity.


The 'Special Committee for the Revitalization of the 2026 Yeosu World Island Expo' consists of 10 members, including Chairman Choi Mugyeong (The Minjoo Party of Korea, Yeosu 4), Choi Dongik (Proportional), Song Hyeonggon (Goheung 1), Shin Uijun (Wando 2), Choi Misuk (Shinan 2), Kim Injeong (Jindo), Son Namil (Yeongam 2), Choi Junghoon (Mokpo 4), Ryu Gijun (Hwasun 2), and Jin Hokeon (Gokseong).
