Opposition Lawmakers Respond to Kim Yong-hyun's Testimony on Social Media
Opposition lawmakers are increasingly transforming into 'National Assembly agents.' When former Defense Minister Kim Yong-hyun claimed on the 3rd of last month that he misheard the order during the emergency martial law from 'extract the agents' to 'extract the lawmakers,' opposition lawmakers responded with mocking remarks on social networking services (SNS), saying, "Now we have become agents."
On the 24th, Park Joo-min, a member of the Democratic Party of Korea, posted a photo on SNS wearing black clothes and sunglasses. The photo included the phrase "Eunpyeong-gap National Assembly 'agent'." Park Ji-won, the oldest member of the National Assembly from the Democratic Party, also wrote on SNS, "I am National Assembly agent Park Ji-won." Im Mi-ae, another Democratic Party lawmaker, left a message saying, "From today, I am a National Assembly agent."
These posts appeared following the conversation between President Yoon's legal team and former Minister Kim during the impeachment trial of President Yoon on the 23rd. Previously, through investigations and testimonies in the National Assembly by former Army Special Warfare Commander Kwak Jong-geun, it was revealed multiple times that President Yoon Seok-yeol gave orders to "pull out the lawmakers." In response, President Yoon's legal team stated, "The order was to extract agents, but it was distorted as an order to extract lawmakers," and former Minister Kim accepted this explanation.
The political circles strongly opposed this explanation.
In a separate SNS post, Representative Park presented part of the prosecution's indictment, stating, "The order to 'enter the main building of the National Assembly and pull the lawmakers outside' is mentioned in the indictment involving former Minister Kim and others," and added, "According to the testimony in the indictment, Yoon Seok-yeol ordered, 'Go to the main assembly hall and have four people carry one person each out.'"
He also said, "Whether they were called agents or personnel, the truth does not change."
Kim Sung-hoe, spokesperson for the Democratic Party, criticized, calling it "laughable," and pointed out, "The entire nation witnessed the crime scene, and confessions from those involved are overflowing." He continued, "We warn them to stop insulting the people and the Constitution of the Republic of Korea with their shameless and unrepentant attitude."
Kim Bo-hyeop, chief spokesperson for the Innovation Party of Justice, also commented, "The legal representatives of President Yoon, the ringleader of the rebellion, and former Minister Kim and other rebel forces have begun mocking the people," and criticized, "We hope they lie appropriately. Do the Constitutional Court justices really believe such clumsy lies?"
